1 Rewrite the sentences using contractions. Make sure you form
contractions correctly:
1 I am learning to do karate. It is difficult, but that does not stop me!

it is = it’s

I’m learning to do karate. It’s difficult, but that doesn’t stop me! I have = I’ve
2 Azza and Badriya do not like gymnastics. They say it is difficult. does not = doesn’t

she is = she’s
They are keen on judo.
3 We have football practice today. There is a match on Saturday. It is the final game.

4 Ahmed is good at basketball, but he is not the best player in the team. That is me!

5 I do not make models. They are expensive and I do not have a lot of money.

6 My friends are not keen on sports, but that is OK. They have other interests.

2 Write some questions for an interview about a sport.

Include lots of question
words, e.g. What is your
favourite sport? When
do you usually play this
sport?

Ask questions, e.g. What
is the best thing about
this sport? Where is the
most interesting place
you can play this sport?

Write questions that
will find out interesting

information, e.g. When
did you start playing
this sport? What do you
have to wear to play this
sport?
